TEN FUN WAYS TO CELEBRATE WORLD BOOK DAY

This week is one of our favourite weeks here at Gator HQ. It’s the week that we get to celebrate all things book related. With World book day just a few days away, we wanted to share some fun ways that your kids can get involved and celebrate their love for books with the whole family.

MODEL YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK CHARACTER

Get creative ask the to kids model their favourite book character. You could use bits and bobs that you have lying around the house or even playdough! It’s a great way to get the kids thinking about their favourite characters and what they might look like in real life.

VISIT SOMEWHERE FROM A BOOK

Have a think about some of your kids favourite books and the locations that surround them. For younger kids who like books such as the “Gruffalo”, you could go for a walk in the woods. Tiger that came to tea fantatics could go for tea at a cafe that serves sausages and ice cream!

WRITE YOUR OWN STORY

Our kids love using their imaginations to create and play. Why not ask them to write their own bedtime story that they can read to you before they go to sleep?

MAKE A READING CORNER

To celebrate World book day (or week here at Gator HQ) ask the kids to make their own reading corner/den. They can use cushions and blankets from around the house and make it into a cosy area to enjoy their favourite reads.

MAKE A PLAY

Making your kids favourite book into a play is an excellent way for kids to explore the stories in more detail and socialise with friends and siblings. This one takes teamwork, and kids often love it! Once they have put together and practised their play, they can perform for their family.

BOOK CHARACTER CHARADES

Book character charades is a great one to play with the whole family, especially on a rainy afternoon!

DRESS UP

Dressing up is a fun way to help kids engage in world book day. Many schools will ask for your kids to come dressed up, but if they don’t, you can still play along at home. Maybe mum and dad could dress up too!

CRAFT A BOOKMARK

Another fun and creative way to get the kids excited about turning those pages is to get them crafting their own bookmarks. This is a great after school activity that the whole family can enjoy.

SWAP BOOKS

Why not see if your kids would like to start their own book club? They can share their favourite reads and set up a system to swap their books so that they always have something new to read.

BAKE YOUR CHARACTERS FAVOURITE FOOD

We couldn’t leave out baking, especially with this rainy weather. You can make anything from goldilocks favourite porridge for breakfast, or some yummy Gruffalo crumble for dessert. See if the kids can recognise some of their characters favourite foods and then recreate them for the family at home!

We hope you have fun with these world book day ideas. We would love to know how you celebrate at home? Join the conversation in the comments below, or via our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
