It may be icy and cold out there, but here at My Gator Watch, we won’t let any weather stop us from getting those kids off their screens and outdoors exploring! With this in mind, we wanted to share our top 10 ways to have fun in the cold…..
MAKE A CAMPFIRE
Grab some marshmallows and go on a winter walk to collect twigs before lighting a bonfire and treating the kids to some smores and hot chocolate. This is a super fun and festive activity for the whole family.
GO ON A WINTER PICNIC
Coats, hats, gloves and blankets at the ready for this one. A picnic in the middle of December? Yes, you heard us, right! Be brave and fill those thermos flasks with soup before heading out for your winter picnic. You will be sure to feel refreshed afterwards.
COLLECT STICKS TO MAKE TOYS
Set the kids a challenge and see if they can make a toy out of sticks they find on a winter walk. This could be a slingshot, a magic wand or a mini den for all their action figures.
GO ON A SCAVENGER HUNT
If you want to get the kids out on a walk, but they are using all the excuses, then print off a quick scavenger hunt. Kids are often more tempted to take on an activity if they have a sheet to follow. See who can tick everything off their list first.
COUNTRY WALK AND PUB LUNCH
Finding a local walking trail with a pub at the end is a lovely way to enjoy a family walk and then warm up with something yummy afterwards. Maybe some warm apple crumble and custard?
BUILD A SNOWMAN
If you have snow, then this will, of course, be a winner
BUILD A FORT
Get the kids outdoors and encourage them to make a fort out of objects they find in the woods. Maybe mum and dad could make one too? We love a bit of competition in our family walks!
ICE SKATING
During December you may be lucky enough to find a local outdoor ice rink, but if not, then an indoor ice rink will do just fine. The kids will love helping mum and dad with their skating moves!
ICE ART
If you are out and about on an icy morning, then encourage the kids to use the weather and make some ice art. There are loads of great ideas on Pinterest here.
GEOCACHING
Geocaching is something the whole family can enjoy at any time of year. The geocaches will be waiting for you in all weathers! For more information on geocaching, click here.
We hope you enjoy these winter activities as much as we do. We would love to know what activities you enjoy when the weather is cold? Join the conversation in the comments below or via our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
