The Gator watch guide to May half term

Already? We hear you! It feels like the kids have only just gone back to school and its May half term already. How did that happen? As a team of mums ourselves, we know that school holidays can be both brilliant and stressful. Spending extra time with our little ones is always lovely, but keeping them entertained can be tough. So we decided to go on a mission to find a collection of some super fun and unique events that are taking place over May Half Term. These events will be sure to keep the kids engaged, and hopefully tire them out a little too!

FAMILY GARDENING FESTIVAL – RHS WISLEY

Get hands-on this Half Term at Wisley’s family gardening festival.

Be sure to explore the music maze, a musical playground of instruments made from recycled materials, and look out for interactive stands from the RSPB, Surrey Bees, the National Vegetable Society and Hedgehog Preservation.

The event runs from the 25th May to the 2nd June and each day holds an exciting new adventure.

LUNA KIDS CINEMA – DULWICH PARK

Visit the UK’s first open-air cinema designed for kids! With kid’s activity areas, delicious hot food and a full refreshments bar on site, as well as the option to hire a premium backrest, it’s the perfect destination for the whole family to enjoy a day out this Half Term.

The Luna Kids Cinema Dulwich Park will be showing films such as Moana, Mary Poppins and Dumbo (to name a few) over half term break.

BROOKLANDS MUSEUM HALF TERM FUN

Get ready for an action-packed day out at Brooklands Museum this Half Term.

Take a trip in a vintage-style car up the test hill and along the banking of the old racetrack. Or why not step aboard Concord for a VIP flight? There is so much to do at Brooklands you will be sure to have a fabulous day out!

ENVIRONMENT EXPLORERS – NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM

Join the natural history museum from the 28th – 30th May to discover how to take care of the environment. This free family festival is jam-packed with exciting and engaging activities for the kids.

ELDERFLOWER FIELDS FAMILY FESTIVAL

Elderflower Fields is an award-winning three-day festival, designed especially for families with children. A wild weekend adventure, packed full of music, sports, nature and the arts, all set in the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside.

BODIAM CASTLE – NATIONAL TRUST

This May half term discover what life was like for some of the Bodiam castle characters and enjoy getting out and about in the castle and grounds with their daily nature I-Spy trail. Why not have-a-go at some archery or build your own birdhouse to take home? There is so much to do for the whole family!

SPA VALLEY RAILWAY – KIDS FOR A QUID

The Spa Valley Railway offers beautiful rides through the high weald countryside on real steam trains. With a new destination at every station, it will be sure to fascinate the kids.
From the 25th – 27th May you can visit Spa Valley Railway and the kids only travel for a quid. An absolute bargain!

FUNGI FUN AT WAKEHURST

Join in the family fun at Wakehurst this May half-term and discover the challenges plants and fungi face from pests and diseases through activities, games and workshops.
Experience their Giant Fungus installation, their Fungi trail and Bug hunts (to name a few)

GROOMBRIDGE PLACE ENCHANTED FOREST

A Half term week not to be missed! The Enchanted Forest will be hosting a fantastic live event with lots of singing and dancing as they present Peter Pan. Join in the fun with face painting, arts and crafts and bouncy castles.

Don’t forget to visit their amazing enchanted forest with zip wires, chain bridges, tunnels and tubes while you are there.

ROALD DAHL MUSEUM

For all the budding bookworms out there this is the perfect day out for you!

Visit the Roald Dahl Museum, a beautiful family attraction in the heart of Roald Dahl country. Get hands-on in the three galleries, packed with activities perfect for 6 to 12-year-olds and their families. Find out about Roald Dahl’s school pranks, peek into the author’s original Writing Hut, and discover how Roald Dahl’s real-life adventures inspired his stories.
